Random Friday

1. I am going on a blind date tonight. I also have to pack a picnic dinner for the movie (it's a Sorority Date Night, so not a surprise).

2. Yesterday I said this boy had better be worth spending $150 on food. Today I don't care because I just made the pastry creme for the berry tart.

3. I really shouldn't make pastry creme. Left to my own devices, I would probably finish off the whole bowl without ever putting it on the tart.

4. I finished the Icarus Shawl from Best of Interweave Knits. See.

5. Some guy down by the pool where the grill is for this apartment complex tried to tell me he thought I was hot or something. He was smelling the awesome grilled chicken I was making for tonight (and I really shouldn't need a special occasion for this stuff. It's amazing!) and said that if it weren't for his girlfriend, he'd marry me just for the food. Then he got all embarrassed as he realized what he implied and amended it, but the other girls down by the pool were still laughing at him.

6. I dropped stats. Oh happy day.

7. Did I mention the pastry creme? Because I really shouldn't make it. The rest of it is sitting in a bowl in the refrigerator and it's calling my name. I may have to eat it just to make it shut up.

In Which I Discover I am a Huge Sucker for Lace

I love lace. Really I do. It's like my love affair with the internet: I love it to the point of distraction, but then I really do get distracted and hate it for a while. So I suppose it's more of a love/hate relationship than anything else.

Well, in March I decided I would design my own lacy tee after I discovered that when I went to knit the Victoria Tank, I really hated it. My tee would have lace around the bottom, a stockinette body, a lace panel sewn on over the bust, and floaty, lacy cap sleeves. So I knit on. At six stitches to the inch, I didn't realize just how long I would have to knit stockinette in the round before I got to the underarms. I am an idiot.

So now I'm at the underarms... and I've condemned the project to the knitting basket. I hate it right now. I love what I want from it. It's not like I hate the idea, but I simply cannot figure out how to go about the lacy, floaty cap sleeves to get them lacy and floaty enough. I also have no idea what to do with the lace panel on the bust. Construction-wise, that's all planned (since I plan on pitching this pattern to a magazine, sorry, not telling you. You'll have to wait). Pretty design-wise, not so much.

I'm a smart person, and you'd think I'd know better. You can't just rush headlong into a project without knowing this stuff. I'd even done the calculations for the sizing, but I simply hadn't figured out the lace.

I'm picking it up again today. Wish me luck because I don't have a clue if I'll have enough yarn, or enough sanity to finish.

A Holiday I Wasn't Aware Of...

So today has been especially weird. It seems that someone declared it "Don't Wear Clothing to Work Day" because all I've seen all day have been nekkid people. That's right. People in various states of undress have been parading themselves around the city.

I suppose it started on my way to my stats class this morning. I was catching the eastbound train when I noticed a girl going the other way in what looked like her unmentionables and a wrap skirt. It took me a moment to realize she was wearing a bikini and a sarong around her waist. Guess what. Bikinis are nothing more than glorified underwear. I wanted to ask her if she was embarrassed about forgetting her clothes, but thought better of it (aren't you proud of my self restraint?).

Then, I had to return home during my break between classes. On my way back, another girl sat down. This time, she really was in her underwear. She was wearing a loose, lace camisole. You could see right through it. Really. This wasn't actually a shirt, but a piece of lingerie. You could see her teal, lace bra that had seen a few too many wearings and washings.

But wait! There's more nudity!

As I continued to wait for the train with this girl sitting next to me, some guy ran across. Something was amiss because he didn't look right, and what looked like a cop was chasing him. A friendly neighborhood streaker had decided to run across the train platform in nothing but a pair of tightie whities. Considering that the train was delayed because the cop was trying to pull him off of it, I would assume that he would have stood calmly at the station until the train got there or until a cop started chasing him.

Finally, on my way home, I decided to stop at the grocery store for a nettie pot (fun thing to wash out the sinuses) and some mind bleach to erase the events of the day when what should appear but a heavily tattooed man on a bicycle. How do I know that he was heavily tattooed? He wasn't wearing a shirt, and his shorts were pretty short. Also, I saw that his nipples were rather puffy. Nipples shouldn't do that to you. Really. If they do, I apologize in advance for your deformity.

I suppose what I'm really trying to say is, SALT LAKE CITY, PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON! It isn't that hard!

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Whole Foods doesn't sell mind bleach.

Hello Everyone!

So being new to the whole blogging thing (but not so new to the whole world of knitting on the web - Thanks Ravelry!) I've decided to start a knitting blog. Well, eventually I'll get people watching I suppose, but for now, I guess I'm starting where every other blogger in the world has started: Posting random stuff to the internet, waiting for someone (or no one) to take notice.

So I love knitting, and that's what this blog is about. I've been posting to Ravelry in a more constant way lately, and I'm loving it. But now I wonder if I should post some other things too. Like more on what's going on with this project.

I'll link to Ravelry so you can see what I've been working on prior to now, but bear in mind that until recently, I didn't have a camera, so there are no pictures of some of the WIPs or final items.

I'll try to post weekly so you can read my stuff, but no promises.
